Common questions

How do I choose the best wine for a meal?

Start with the meal, not the grape. Decide what is on the plate first, then match the weight of the wine to the richness and texture of the food. Red with meat and white with fish is too crude to be much use; a light red will sit better with a delicate dish than a heavy white will.

What does a private wine consultation cost?

The first 30 minute consultation is free, and consultation time after that is $295 per hour. Personal Wine Advice is $99 and covers your taste preferences, the meal and the occasion, your budget, three to five recommendations with pairing notes, a written summary, and one follow up question afterwards.

Do I need to know anything about wine first?

No. Tell Guy what you are eating, what you enjoy, roughly what you want to spend and who you are sharing it with. That is enough to start, and it is the normal starting point rather than the exception.

Does Best Wine For You sell wine?

No. It is an independent advisory service and does not sell alcohol. There are no winery commissions and no sponsored recommendations, so there is nothing to push. Wine purchasing, delivery, venue, travel, and other third party costs may be quoted separately depending on the experience.

Is the most expensive bottle the best one?

No. Price and quality track each other for a while and then stop, usually sooner than people expect. The best wine is the one that fits the person, the moment, the food and the budget, which is often a $35 bottle rather than a $300 one.

Do you work with restaurants and businesses?

Yes. The Business Wine Review at $399 is the entry point for restaurants, hotels, event venues and corporate buyers. It covers a wine list and pairing review, or corporate gifting and client dinner recommendations, returned as a written plan.
